Repro Shop

We stock a number of products in association with the reproductive service we provide here at Southview.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is well known to be a powerful antioxidant in the body. In the male Vitamin E protects the testis from oxidative damage and therefore enhances semen quality.

It can be used during busy breeding periods for stud dogs.

It can be used as an aid for sub-fertile stud dogs.

It can also be used to ensure a stud dogs semen is at its maximum potential before being frozen and stored.

It is important to use a supplement designed for animals. The human equivalent should not be used as it may not be of digestible quality for dogs.

Milk Replacer

Everyone who has a bitch whelping should have milk replacer at home in case necessary.

When is it necessary?

  • For weak puppies
  • Orphaned puppies
  • Large litters to take pressure of the dam
  • Where a dam has little or no milk
  • For the dam herself especially if she is run down and not producing milk

The best milk for puppies is their own mothers milk especially in the immediate period around whelping as she produces colostrum. Where possible pups should be fed from the dam before being supplemented.

We stock a puppy colostrum which is formulated using cows colostrums and contains high levels of fat and protein to keep the puppy warm and energised.

We also stock a general canine milk replacer to maintain puppies on if continued feeding is necessary.

We stock feeding kits that contain bottles with measurements on the side, cleaning brushes and a range of teats.

Bottles should be used where a puppy is exhibiting the suck reflex. If a puppy is unable to suck do not use a bottle and seek veterinary assistance.

Feeding Bottles and Teats

Puppy Stim

Following positive feedback from breeders we now stock Puppy Stim for weak and dull puppies.

As most breeders will know puppies conditions can change rapidly, often within a matter of hours. They tend to lose heat and glucose very, very quickly which can cause them to stop feeding, become dehydrated and potentially die.

PuppyStim contains colostrum, glucose and other highly digestible nutrients to provide the energy necessary to recover and start drinking again.

It can be a lifesaver.

Puppy Collars

It is important to be able to identify each puppy individually in order to record their weights and development. We provide different coloured Velcro collars to be able to identify each puppy.

Pet Food

Providing a well balanced diet is vital for your pet to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Pet food manufacturers have conducted years of research to produce a balanced food to meet all the nutritional needs of your pet.

Food provides the nutrients required to:

  • build and maintain muscle tone
  • build and repair muscles, tendons, ligaments
  • maintain bone condition
  • promote growth and repair
  • maintain healthy teeth,
  • maintain healthy skin and glossy coat
  • fight off infection
  • promote healthy brain function

The benefits of good quality nutrition are endless which is why we stock the Hills Vet Essentials Range of life-stage diets along with another premium brand called Burns which is developed by Veterinary Surgeon John Burns.

Correct nutrition should ideally be provided from a very early stage to promote healthy and steady growth and development of puppies and kittens. This can be key to avoiding potential health problems later in life.

If you would like to discuss what food would best suit your pet please don’t hesitate to pop in and talk to any of our vets or nurses . Or call us during office hours and we can give advice over the phone.

Prescription Diets

When certain health conditions have been diagnosed, diet can be crucial in controlling the symptoms associated. We stock diets which are tailored to meet the requirements of those suffering from a given issue.

The following are examples of where diets may be useful to help with symptoms:

  • Gastrointestinal Issues
  • Joint Disease and Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Feline Urinary Disease
  • Canine Urinary Issues
  • Allergies
  • Skin Issues

We stock both Hills and Royal Canin prescription diets for our clients. Diets can sometimes be the only form of controlling certain conditions or may be used in conjunction with medication.

Obesity

Obesity is a new phenomenon in the pet world and is a growing cause for concern. Approximately 1 in 3 dogs and 2 in 5 cats in Ireland are currently obese. We find owners often have a well intended but misconceived perception of the definition of pet obesity.

We are passionate about educating families on the correct weight for their pet and we do so through nurse led weight clinics. Our nurses can meet with you and assess what would be a healthy weight for your pet based on body measurements rather than weight alone.  We will make it achievable for you by providing a full diet and exercise plan tailored to your pets needs.

We stock a range of weight loss foods and treats that can excel and optimise your pets weight loss regime.  We promote safe and healthy programmes. If you are concerned about your pets health, book in for an appointment to see one of our nurses. We will help you every step of the way.

Parasite Treatment

We provide the most up-to-date and effective treatments in order to keep your pet free of parasites.

By talking to you and getting some details of your pets day-to-day life we can recommend the best treatment for your pet.

The main parasites that we treat our pets for are:

  • Worms
  • Fleas
  • Ticks
  • Lice
  • Mites

Prevention is better than cure and we do recommend year round treatments to minimise contracting parasites. Generally the treatments are required every 3 months depending on the products used.

No one product will treat all of these parasites so a combination is usually necessary.

By coming in or calling us and chatting to us about your pets lifestyle we can come up with a regime tailored to your pets individual needs. You can also book to see a nurse who can administer the treatments for you if you have difficulty yourself.

Shampoo

Washing your dog not only leaves them clean, fresh and smelling good but it can also leave them feeling good. We provide a range of shampoos that are gentle and unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. We choose products with ingredients that we would happily use on our own dogs with emphasis on being kind to skin. We also stock shampoos for puppies.

We have medicated shampoos available if recommended by one of our Veterinary Surgeons following consultation.

Dental

We stock toothbrushes specially designed for ease of use on pets. They are often softer than normal toothbrushes and some are designed so as to slip on over your finger which can be easier to use on some pets.

We also have flavoured toothpaste which dogs tend to tolerate well.

Nutraceuticals

Nutraceuticals contain food compounds which when included in the diet have a profoundly positive impact on the body. They generally promote chemical actions in the body which even pharmaceutical drugs cannot mimic. We find them very effective and useful in both treatment and prevention of certain ailments.

A common example which is also used in human medicine is glucosamine and chondroitin supplements for arthritic pets or those with joint pain. Adding these nutrients promotes joint repair and provide great relief to those with painful joints.

Other uses of nutraceuticals:

  • Coat Maintenance
  • Digestive Support (probiotics)
  • Anal Gland remedies
  • Joint Supplements
  • Liver Support
  • General Wellbeing
